OSIA - Order of Sons of Italy In America Celebrating 100 years in 2005

OSIA is the largest and longest established national organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the U.S. It was formed in 1905 in New York City to help Italian immigrants assimilate into American society. OSIA currently has over 600,000 members and supporters and 700 chapters coast to coast.

-Promotes Italian Language and culture in U.S. schools.

-Fights the stereotyping of Italian Americans in advertising, entertainment and the media.

-Awards scholarships to young college bound Italian Americans.

-Donates funds for medical research and disaster relief. A major contributor to Alzheimer’s research, Cooley’s Anemia and the Birth Defects & Genetics Library Program

Regular membership: Less than 66 years of age upon joining, is of Italian descent or spouse is Italian, has voting rights and insurance.

Initiation fee $25.  Mortuary Fund $5. 1 year dues $55. = $85.

Associate membership: Meets the criteria of a Regular member but is 66 years or older upon joining or have elected not to join the Mortuary Fund.

Social membership: Not of Italian descent and neither is spouse, no voting rights.

Junior membership = $10. donation

Children up to 18 years of age or up to 25 if in college

The Vallejo Lodges — Beatrice Portinari (women) and Virgilio (men) meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at our hall for dinner and the discussion of past and future events.
